Course: Foundations for Business Leadership
Always looking for opportunities to advance my learning and career development, I was very excited when I saw an article in The Advertiser detailing the Industry Leaders Fund (ILF) program. After a quick investigation, I commenced my application for the 2018 ILF grants program. Having a technical background in Geology and Corporate Affairs, I always felt I lacked the strong commercial business acumen required to take the next step to executive management. After scouring the globe for reputable institutions offering advanced management programs, I landed on the Foundations for Business Leadership (FBL) at IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The FBL program is run over 20 days, encompassing cross functional disciplines including Finance, Marketing, Strategy, Supply Chain, Entrepreneurship and Economics. I joined the May 2019 intake, along with 45 like-minded program participants from 32 different countries. Whilst the program was gruelling, it was incredibly enjoyable and rewarding experience. One of the biggest takeaways from the program was a new found confidence in my ability to not only better understand business fundamentals, but to deliver front line leadership at an executive level on a global scale. Importantly, the program also provided an amazing network of global professionals who I can now call on for advice and guidance.
Since returning, I have been able to quickly adapt my new skills to drive stronger business performance and accountability within my functional area at Beach Energy, and I now feel confident that I can take my career to the next level.
