University of Adelaide
Course: Professional Management Program

In 2019, I was incredibly fortunate to receive a grant from the ILF to pursue professional development through the University of Adelaide’s Professional Management Program. This opportunity resonated deeply with my career aspirations, and having heard firsthand accounts of the ILF’s impact from two former scholars, I recognized its significance and knew I had to apply. Geoff’s guidance throughout the application process was instrumental, providing invaluable support as I refined my goals and articulated how an ILF grant would be pivotal in my professional growth.

The timing of the grant couldn’t have been better, coinciding with a recent promotion. The chance to invest in my development and become a more effective leader at this stage in my career was an opportunity I simply couldn’t pass up. I am profoundly grateful to the ILF for their belief in my potential and for providing this platform to enhance my leadership skills and broaden my understanding of the complexities of the modern business landscape through the Professional Management Program.

The University of Adelaide’s Professional Management Program stood out as the ideal choice due to its flexible, self-paced structure. This format allowed me to seamlessly integrate my studies with the demands of my daily work life, ensuring that I could apply my new knowledge and insights in real-time. While my initial plan was to complete the program within a single year, the unforeseen and far-reaching impact of the COVID-19 pandemic extended the duration of my studies to two years. This extended timeline, while unexpected, ultimately allowed for a deeper engagement with the material and provided more opportunities to reflect on and integrate the learning’s into my evolving professional practice.

The PACE program provided a valuable opportunity to enhance my leadership, strategic thinking, and operational efficiency. The curriculum focused on developing key leadership skills, including emotional intelligence and people management, which have already positively impacted my approach to team dynamics and individual empowerment. I also gained a stronger understanding of financial principles, enabling me to contribute more effectively to strategic financial planning and decision-making. The program’s emphasis on strategic thinking has broadened my perspective and equipped me with the tools to analyse complex challenges and develop effective solutions, directly influencing a major organizational strategy initiative. Finally, the focus on process improvement methodologies has provided me with practical skills in areas like Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen, enhancing my ability to drive operational efficiency and continuous improvement.

I am deeply grateful for the ILF’s investment in my professional development and consider myself truly fortunate to have been a part of their selection process. The opportunity afforded by the ILF has been transformative, and I am sincerely thankful for the opportunity.
