Strategic Leadership Program
In May 2023 I had the great privilege of attending the Strategic Leadership Programme at Oxford University’s Saïd Business School, thanks to the generous funding provided by the Industry Leaders Fund.
Having taken advice from Ann Perriam (ILF2018), along with support from Geoff Vogt on course selection, the application process for the grant was rigorous yet straightforward.
The Oxford Strategic Leadership Programme offered an experiential learning environment that went beyond traditional leadership training. Focused on creativity and lateral thinking, the course addressed a critical gap in my skill set as an engineer. It provided me with invaluable insights and techniques for creative problem-solving, pushing me to think differently and approach problems with fresh ideas.
This opportunity has significantly improved my leadership potential. As a relatively early-career professional, the exposure to diverse perspectives, creative thinking, and real-world experiences has equipped me to lead with a greater sense of strategic vision. I feel better prepared to address the challenges and opportunities in the evolving renewable energy transition.
The ILF grant also gave me the opportunity to spend time with colleagues from National Grid, a ‘sister’ company to ElectraNet who are responsible for owning and maintaining the high voltage electricity network in England and Wales. This knowledge-sharing initiative aimed at building long-term relationships and proved to be immensely beneficial.
I am very grateful to Geoff Vogt and the Board of the Industry Leaders Fund for their support. Memories and experiences from my time in the UK will stay with me forever.
