Seventeen SA business leaders awarded Industry Leaders Fund Grants in 2016.
The SA Industry Leaders Fund (ILF) has awarded grants totalling $209,000 to seventeen of the states aspiring business leaders to help them realise their professional potential.
The 2016 Scholars are a calibre of business leaders who will propel South Australia forward, stimulate economic growth for the State and continue to grow prosperous businesses and employment opportunities, says ILF CEO, Geoff Vogt.
This year the ILF applicants showed outstanding quality and potential with a higher proportion in the entrepreneurial category, he says.
They are more ambitious in terms of the type of course they wished to study.
Vogt says a number of Scholars said they were just as interested in joining the ILF Scholars Network as they were in the size of any grant that might be offered.
The ILF scholars were surveyed in January this year and the responses indicated 450 additional jobs had been created in their firms since each scholar had completed their course.
That is equal to an average cost of $2,500 in grant dollars per job, which compares quite well with some other job generation programs that have been highly publicised in recent times.
The Industry Leaders Fund have qualified to date 103 scholars, and provided a total sum of grants of $1,291,000 over seven years.
There were a total of 49 applicants for the year.
The seventeen recipients spanned a range of industries, including Manufacturing, Building, Food & Beverage and Wine Research.
Scholars were recognised last night, at the ILF awards ceremony at the Adelaide Wine Centre.
The Industry Leaders Fund provides grants of up to $50,000 to talented applicants who show great leadership potential.
Five recipients received $20,000 grants to accelerate their business leadership, including Marc (Jim) Grose of Axion Precision Manufacturing, Adrian Fahey of SAGE Automation, Gerry Doyle of Tonkin Consulting, Zoe Detmold of Detpak and Peter Cobb of Laucke Flour Mills.
Former 2015 grant recipient, Eddie Lane of Cold Logic Pty Ltd says they have seen profound benefits to their business following training provided by the ILF grant provided.
By injecting high level thinking and using world best practice has lead us to overall growth figures averaging 17% in the past two years while taking on seven additional staff, he says.
The call for applicants for 2017 will close on Wednesday May 31 next year.
