Almost 2000 jobs created under SA industry leader grant scheme
South Australias Industry Leader Fund attributes its annual grant scheme with helping support the creation of 1657 jobs in South Australia and 1754 interstate since the scheme began in 2009.
The Fund surveyed its 142 Scholars, finding 1657 jobs had been created as their companies grew and benefited from the combined $1.53 million granted up to 2017 for leader education.
This equates to an average grant dollar cost per South Australian job generated at less than $1000, down from $4000 last year, said ILF chief executive Geoff Vogt.
In the first survey we took in 2015, the average cost was just below $19,000.
This supports our aim to grow employment and generate wealth in South Australia and weve seen significant success amongst many of our scholars enterprises, he said.
ILF is calling on industry leaders to now apply for 2019 grants worth up to $50,000 each to develop their professional potential and join a influential member scholar network.
The Fund will be making its tenth round of awards this year and Mr Vogt expects there will be a desire to mark the occasion with a larger than normal offering of grants a good year for leaders to apply.
The unique private sector Fund supports individuals who can demonstrate leadership potential at work and in the community and are interested in sharing their knowledge and achievement with their industry.
Mr Vogt said the best way to build a strong South Australian economy was to provide financial support for the development of current and potential business leaders.
The unique private sector Fund assisted 20 scholars with $199,000 worth of grants in 2018, helping them to attend programs at Harvard Business School, INSEAD, Melbourne Business School, the University of Adelaide, Stanford Graduate School of Business, the University of South Australia and IMD (Switzerland).
Last years successful applicants were: Charlotte Aykroyd (Australian Clean Green), Matthew Falzon (Joule Energy), Stephen Faulkner (PMB Defence), David Haley (Myriota), Kara Jerman (Cobham Aviation Systems), Sarah Leo (Resonate), Greg Lowe (Mumme Tools), Nektarios Nicolaou (Thomas Foods International), Ann Perriam (Electranet), Dwayne Povey (Lincoln Minerals), Mick Sanders (MOO Premium Foods), Matt Sinnett-Jones (ASC Shipbuilding), Andrew Sluggett (CPIE Pharmacy Services), Bradley Spencer (Nova Systems), Calvin Stead (Kelly Engineering), Matthew Stein (Trical Australia), Cameron Thompson (Cowell Electrical Supply), Seth Thuraisingham (Consilium Technologies), Glenn Toogood (Beach Energy), Shaun Westcott (Hot Melt Packaging Services),
Mr Vogt said the application process was simple but rigorous with scholars selected from wealth-creating industries for the State, including food and wine, bio-sciences, manufacturing, defence, software development, electronics, engineering and resources.
Applicants must work in businesses located in the State and employ South Australians in jobs that could be located interstate or overseas.
Applications close on Friday, May 31 2019.
